This is my journey in creating concepts, writing, illustrating, finding a literary agent, and becoming a published children's book author and illustrator for the picture book genre.

something new

In my quest to bring etiquette to the young people, I have created "the Bumbly  Blue Book of Buggy  Manners".
Below is an illustration that I am working on. As I work, I will add more pics to show the progress. I am trying to capture a character style with some new characters. I love the pond and forest themes, but look forward to trying some farm characters in the near future. Please enjoy and thank you for checking it out!
Not done yet, but closer still. It is a vibrant, buggy picture.

This is another new one that I am working on. It is inspired by my boys; Jude, Ethan, and Grayson.

Portfolio planning

I am hard at work preparing to present my best illustrations for the southern breezer conference on the 12th of October. They have been wonderful about communication. It is a very well organized chapter of SCBWI. Today, I finished this piece below.  I took pictures of my process. I actually do this for me. It allows me to see how it will look as a flat page and how it reads to an observer.
the sketching of the idea
I start with my first layers of color.

more color and shading applied
the final piece. I love the colors. It resembles a lot of the greenery I walk through daily. The yellow flowers were inspired from some the grow close to our home!
More to come as the day draw near. I post often on facebook.
Feel free to like my page and take a peek. I am also in the illustrator portfolio section of the SCBWI site!

In the blink of an eye...

Life moves fast. Sometimes weeks disappear into the memory of months and the dreams of a year. I find myself lost within it. Weeks have gone by and I have been immersed in the needs of the family. Art has taken a backseat during the move and transition. Slowly, my things find their way to new homes on shelves and desks. My pencils travel where I travel but still have the sharpened tips of a sketch waiting to be developed. I have registered for the Southern conference for SCBWI and will have a portfolio review. This should spice up some areas that need work and help me find the next step to the road of published author and illustrator. Conferences are essential for those of us who aspire to be part of the elite. We learn from those who have stumbled and found footing. They share their hardships, experiences, successes, and failures. I am excited to attend my first conference next month. So much work to prepare for this conference. I need to update my illustrator cards, add new work to my portfolio, and spice up a manuscript or two. One never knows when opportunity will knock. I guess it is a good idea to expect her at any time.
